Tapas dining in Ningbo takes on a new dimension with Bar Celona Wine Bar & Kitchen, a compact street front, neighborhood eatery serving a modern, Asian influenced, Spanish cuisine. The creation of Irish designer and restaurateur James McGeough with Spanish chef Gabriel Rodriguez, Bar Celona embraces the recent international culinary trend for the democratization of dining, bringing gourmet cuisine to the street front in an accessible, casual and relaxed setting while dispensing with any stuffy formality of traditional fine dining. An intimately proportioned space- Bar Celona seats just 44 diners in its cozy interior and 6 diners at the open kitchen counter, and with a ‘No Reservations’ policy, all customers are treated equally with no pretentiousness here! The opening of Bar Celona marks the entry of Gabriel Rodriguez (a protégé of Gordon Ramsay) into the Ningbo dining scene, adding to his expanding Asian experience with several recent restaurant openings in Shanghai. As Executive Chef at Bar Celona, Rodriguez has worked with McGeough to craft a concise menu featuring modern creative tapas, grounded in traditional Spanish style cuisine and overlaid with contemporary culinary influences. Located on Caihong North Road, alongside the Sheraton Ningbo, a small side street in central Ningbo now undergoing accelerated urban renewal, the restaurant presents an open facade to the pavement and exudes a fusion of traditional chic design with a minimalist decor of whitewashed styled walls and timber flooring. Windows across the frontage fold back to open up the interior to the outside street with open air seating at the pavement. Alongside ever popular O’Reilly’s Irish Pub & Restaurant, the pavement space outside Bar Celona is a buzzing social hub in the evenings as diners either wait for tables or enjoy drinks. The inspirational cuisine created by Rodriguez utilizes the best of both European and Asian ingredients, bringing a modern touch to the traditional classics of Spanish tapas. Bar Celona Wine Bar & Kitchen opens daily 10am for lunch and dinner closing at 2am
