I love this restaurant. We had the small tasting menu which is just perfect for us as we have small appetites. The food was well paced, the service wonderful. One dish the steak with foie gras will go done in memory as one of the best single courses I have ever sampled. Very very good cooking with great ingredients prepared with a high degree of skill and creativity. The wine list is extensive and while expensive, it is fairly priced compared to other elegant fine dining establishments in Shanghai. Why 4 stars. This may seem like a minor point, but the restaurant is far far too dark. Almost impossible to see the menu without using my phone. I also wanted to see the excellent presentation, color and plating without being obnoxious and turning my phone light on. I sat at a table and may have been better off at the bar. Nevertheless enjoyed the experience very much and will be back when I come back to Shanghai in a couple of months.

Joel Robuchon is always a good meal! stunning food presentation and quality. Great location and amazing views you can't get anywhere else in the world. Want a nice place to eat this is it!

Finally ! This was the best meal I have ever had - this man knows how to put flavors together that compliment and excite ..what a delicious tasting menu and never did I worry that meat was in any dish !

I heard so much about this location of Joel Robuchon and was concerned it wouldn't live up to its hype - well it certainly does.
The restaurant is beautiful and has a nightclub vibe to it.
I know its "just" a bread basket they serve but wow was it good and was among the best bread I've ever had. Everything we had was good and though I had quite a lot to eat I'm glad I saved room for dessert. That too was excellent.
This was the western dinner I had in China.

I had been to the Tea Salon but on this last trip i booked a seat at the famous bar seating in the Atelier. What a wonderful experience, i was alone but the staff engaged me in lovely conversation, explaining each course i ordered in great detail. They made me feel welcome and the food was wonderful. You can't miss the first glass of champagne to start the night off and the seasonal pumpkin soup was divine, the artichoke starter had such Umami and lastly the sous vide preparation of the steak was wonderful. I literally could not eat another thing so had to miss the precious dessert course.

As a fan and visitor to Joel Robushon's restaurants, I didn't miss the restaurant in Shanghai either. Everything was as good and delicious as ever! We ordered starters, beet salad with apple, hot artichoke, and soup. Everything was deliciously delicious! The lamb chops and burgers, the classic dishes, were as excellent as ever! Wonderful views from the restaurant and excellent service from the entire staff, complete the experience!

The restaurant was not too crowded the night we walked in. I had 7 courses and the food was great especially the rossini. It was an exceptional dish for that night. The service and the wine list were fantastic. Nothing to really complain about except the price is little bit pricey.

The restaurant is very nice. Sitting at the bar was a little odd but it did give a good opportunity to talk to the staff. They were knowledgeable and friendly and always present when required. It was also a pleasure to watch the kitchen at work. The food of course was excellent, perfectly prepared and beautifully presented.
A very nice evening.

Robuchon has done a credible job with his Ateliers and there seem to be plenty of them. We chose the Shanghai one as after a week in Beijing we needed some non-Chinese food. Sat at the counter (I requested) which was a little crowded and awkward for the staff to serve, however enjoyed seeing the kitchen. The food is quite rich of course, and the full menu at $200 pp was way more then we could handle. However, we ordered 4 of the small plates to share and this was perfect. Most of the multi-course menu items are available individually. We had the pea soup, sea bass, lamb and veggie risotto - all perfectly cooked and delicious. The wine list is extensive and reasonably priced for China and a nice red Chinon complemented the food very well. With a few freebies thrown in plus a great bread basket a very nice meal and at $200 pretty well priced.

I’ve been to almost all the l’ateliers around the world and this is as great as all the rest. There’s a choice between a la carte and set menus and mostly everything will be delicious. The bread basket and mashed potato are unique parts of the experience

Nice atmosphere, great food and wine, excellent service. No doubt Michelin 2 Star in China.
We reserved a window seats a week in advance, and was informed that we could only have set menu if we would want to seat near the window, if not we could do a-la-carte at at the open kitchen area. We opted for the 5 course set menu, which cost 1,388 per person. We were about 40 minutes ahead of the reservation time, but since the restaurant was not full, we were seated accordingly.
Everything was just great. We asked the Sommelier to recommend a bottle of wine to pair with the food, and it was a good selection. The staffs are able to speak English well, and the service for the entire night was just excellent.
Great experience to dine at Joel Robuchon and hope to be back soon.

Had an ok, but not really the two stars they hold matching dinner at this beautiful restaurant on the Bund. The staff is friendly and attentive, the concept with the open kitchen and the bar dining is nice and the views across the river to the new Pudong skyline are stunning.
But the most important thing - the food - did not really match my expectations. Nor did it match the criteria of a two star restaurant. Therefore the product quality and preparation was not good enough and some of the dishes were simply too indifferent - in terms of texture and in terms of complementing aromas. So the Cauliflower or the Farm Egg.
The wine list has a great depth of french whites (especially burgundy) that come at - even for China - pretty high prices.
Overall a beautiful place that could at my visit not live up to the two stars they hold. Nevertheless, I might give them a second chance the next time I’m in Shanghai, and see whether the new executive chef - who started only at the beginning of march - and his team will harmonize better.

We were last month to Jean George and we were severely disappointed ( we are French) and here .... wow . I do not know what to say, the creativity of each dish , the quality of execution, the decoration and lastly the service .... all simply perfect.
Give you 3 examples of service to share the level : they change the napkin when my wife went to toilet , none of of glass has ever been empty and supreme attention : the waitresses noticed at the first dish that i am left handed and then for every following dish changed the setting of the table !! ( this level of attention only happened to me in the restaurant (3 stars) of Martin Berasategi in Spain.
You eat for the same price range that other French Restaurant of the bund but clearly here ... it is simply not the same league. Congratulations .

We all know it, people don’t like to spend too much on a casual lunch. Went there with a colleague and decided to stay despite the high price (for a lunch set 188). After ordering we found out that they charged extra for bread! When it arrived it was an assortment of nicely made mini breads but again for lunch and especially for a French venue, they should offer free bread also considering that the portions are tiny and that without bread, you will have to order something else or leave hungry. Overall, it tasted very good but the high price, lack of free bread and surprise 10% service charge added at the end made it a somewhat disappointing experience for me (I’m French btw).

It’s amazing travel through the world so far from France and find the same lovely French good taste. Is like a oasis, like a island or a fortress of the French foreign legion. Where the nowadays combatants are ruled by a brilliant general named Franky.

As Robuchon had just passed away we thought it would be a good idea to visit his place on the Bund. The food was excellent, truly exceptional, the staff very attentive and funny, and if you go for the after 9pm deal Monday to Thursday it’s not hideously expensive. They bring masses at fresh bread, which is also excellent by the way, so even if you’re very hungry you will leave feeling sated. Wonderful experience, highly recommended

I was a little bit suspicious that French food might be compromised when we could only sat at the bar for lunch. The interaction with the chefs didn’t exit since you could hardly see much. Nevertheless, the foods were really executed well. Presentation was pleasant and the services were excellent.
